I've just done that task, without specail tools you're looking at removing the diesel pump, pipes and alternator from the engine alone. if the engine starts from cold LEAVE THEM ALONE!!! I'm a petrol engine mechanic and hated doing the job, it was more trouble than it was worth. Darren darren December 2007

I replaced my head recently. I bought the cam timing tool from GSF. The tdc on my engine was found by looking at the marks on the flywheel throught the aforementioned inspection hole in the gearbox. My 2.4 aab engine flywheel was stamped with a 0 then a "tick" and then a "T" The "tick was the tdc.
